Is technology making us lazy or making it convenient for us to live?
In my own opinion, I honestly feel that I’m mutual about this whole situation on the improved technology happening today. Yes, technology may have caused laziness for millions of people around the world, but it has also made life a lot more convenient. If you imagine how everyone lived back in the days, technology was less important because many people were able to live without many technology devices that many of us today cannot go a day without. Globalization is occurring every single day and there’s really nothing we can do about it. With globalization, it has helped with our American trade companies migrate most of their manufacturing jobs to foreign countries where it’s cheaper to do businesses with countries such as China and Japan. For example small corner markets now have the opportunities and connections to do businesses with even larger foreign industries that can work the business more efficiently. Its unbelievable how significantly technology has improved in the years. It’s advanced so quickly it’s amazing how much its changed many of our lives and we don’t even realize it. Many of technology’s magic make life for us very convenient to handle certain situations we face today. Such things like instead of walking out of our car and walking into the banks to cash or deposit money, there are bank drive through that exists now. Yes it makes it convenient for those who are in a rush and are running late but there is a boundary one can cross and that’s taking advantage of advanced technology. For example, when one just uses the bank drives through even though they are capable of walking in and are in no rush at all. If you think about it, yea it makes us lazy but yet why not take the opportunities available for us to use when its there. If you think about it, back then, it didn’t bother people whether or not technology is available. They didn’t need GPS systems, cell phones, of I-pods to survive and today people act as if they can’t survive a day without it. The difference between back then and now is that recent generations have grown up around this kind of technology that it’s become a necessity in everyday life and there’s not much we can really do to change it. Although globalization has positives and negatives effects onto the world, either way it’s doing us a lot of good. Without it, I don’t think many problems we have today could be solved or improved. The world is not perfect, therefore, there is always going to be some kind of negative influence brought onto the world after any change. Either way, technology has helped improve problems with poverty, technology, communication, trade, and businesses worldwide. But it’s really up to us to really think about how we want to handle the situation. Advanced technology is great but taking advantage is a problem because we need to consider other developing countries that would die to have the opportunities and accesses

The Bag Lady Poem
I am the bag lady in every city, I have a spot on every street
-This first line gave me the idea that this lady may be a homeless woman who is constantly moving from one area to another living in every street basically
My sacks are full of holiness, So I have come to peddle, to touch your feet
-Her bags are full of sacred things and since peddle means going from place to place selling items, I assume that she walks around the cities begging, trying to sell the things that are in her bags to people
I give Myself,To Myself on rare occasions because I am so very shy
-Desperate for money, she probably sold herself to men to have sex just to suvive in the streets
Hafiz, the monarchs of this world, Are but slaves to thee, Since the Beloved took His seat, In your eye.
-I have no idea what this may mean???
I am the bag lady in every city. I am playing divine music in every world.
-She is known to be that "poor lady" roaming around the cities leaving traces of herself with people knowing who she is
My sacks are full of holiness. I am asking, May I please bow to you.
-She's pleading and begging for a person to buy her belongings that are filled with holiness inside her sack in return for money for herself.
May I please bow to you
-Living the streets alone, praying to God for what she is and how she lives.

Human Rights: Trafficking of Women & Children & Forced Labor
Before we had even discussed about the issue on Human trafficking in class, I knew very little about it. I hadn't really took the time to think about it and it surprises me that it is still going around. It was interesting to have learned some new things regarding the issue. The stories I heard during the class discussion was unbelievable and I wondered how can anybody be so cruel to treat any human like that. Human Trafficking is in other words, modern day slavery involving victims who are forced or tricked into labor or sexual exploitation and the main targets are woman and children. Human trafficking takes away the human rights and freedoms of these victims and also plays an impact on the global health issues. The reason for that is because the victims are likely to be beaten and raped causing them to suffer physical and emotional abuse and may even be the cause of death. According to a presentation and video at Chalon about Human trafficking, I learned that there is a bigger number of slavery occuring today compared to history and all this time I thought slavery was done. These vulnerable victims are anxious to move out of their hard working country and almost always believe anything anyone says just to arrive in America. They see in T.V how American live and dream to live the so called "American life" with money, cars, nice clothes, better food but in actuality they have no idea they're putting they're lives at stake. When they think of moving to America, they think its more opportunities for a better life. Some children don't even have a choice because they're sold by their own parents to pay off their family debts. It's sad how anyone could even have the heart to do this. But when I really think about it, it shows how desperate people are that they are willing to do anything to pay off their debts or live a better life in America.
What do you know about the Spread of Disease in the Global Community?
I know there is a spread of diseases in the Global Community because it has been occuring for many years now and as the years go by, they seem to get only worse. One of the deadly diseases that is going around many regions of the world is HIV/AIDS and There are other diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and tuberculosis that still to continue to kill millions of people in the developing countries. While HIV/AIDS continue to be incurable, the other disesease like malria, fever, and tuberculosis have solutions that are available. There are bed nets to stop malaria mosquitoes from biting people and even vaccines to prevent or cure diseases like measles. These solutions exist, but the real problem is that many people are unable to obtain them because either they don't have it in their country/area or they are too poor to even pay for it so they're left with nothing but to wait and die. It's sad because my question is that here in the rich countries, we have so many medical treatments available for anybody in the world, but no ones really helping the people who can't get a reach of these vaccines and medications that they need. Everyday there is someone always dying due to unreachable treatment to help with there disease. Not only that, but there are new diseases being found that continue to attack people all over the world and they travel fast. The pandemic of HIV/AIDS continues to spread and while its an incurable disease, many people are taking their lives for granted and are not taking necessary prevention strategies to maintain a healthy sexual lifestyle. Others have no choice because they are raped. According to an article by the Pearson Foundation, last year there was about 33 million people living with HIV/AIDS and 2 million have died from it. The governments in the world should be the ones working at their hardest trying to work and teach the preventions and treatments for these deadly diseases, but the help given to them is so limited and certain rules are set that it makes it almost impossible to even provide help to the developing countries who need it the most.
How is the Semester Going so Far?
This semester is finally coming to an end and it's been stressful one so far. This whole year has been a lot harder than last year and it's because of my Anatomy classes but I'm hanging in there. This year has been hard, but yet fun, and it's exactly what I expected. I heard from last year students who were also nursing majors that my second year would be nothing compared to my first year and that it was going to be difficult. They had also said that managing my time and studying would be the two most important things I would have to focus on and they were definetely right. My anatomy classes are very challenging because it's a whole lot of memorization of information in such a short period of time. It's really a big change because I usually know what information I need to study for prior to an exam or test, but for anatomy, basically I have to study everything from the begining of the year for every exam because they include a little bit of everything from the start. There is no such thing as cramming anymore even though I shouldn't be doing that to begin with. Now, I have to start studying for my exams at least 2 weeks in advance because its a big load of information to get down to. On top of that, the most challenging part is sometimes when I finally get my quiz or exam, many things I focus studying on end up not being on the exam so I'm pretty much screwed. I never thought nursing would be this challenging, and not only that, but they always tell me as that it only gets harder and I can't imagine it any harder than it already is. I'm just really glad that this semester is almost over. Theres about one and a half more weeks of school left and as much as I'm excited to go back home to Hawaii, I'm trying to keep calm and focus on studying and getting over with FINALS first before even getting excited. I'm not so worried about my other general ed. classes because I'm pretty sure I'm doing good in all of them. It's my Anatamoy lecture class and lab that I'm most worried about and I'm just praying I pass with a C or even better!
What to expect at the Alexandria House
I haven't gone to Alexandria House yet and to be hoenst, I really don't know what to expect. All I know about the place was that it was a non profit transitional residence home for women and children in the process of moving from emergency shelter to permanent housing. They provide educational and opportunities to the residents who live there such as Women's Support Group, Teen Educational Programs, Child Care, ESL classes, and Networking with other community based groups. Prior to going Alexandria House, I had never ever done any community services or volunteer work of any kind similiar to this so I had no idea what to expect. All I could do is read about them from the forms and pamphlets they handed out to us so thats pretty much all I know about them. To be honest , I was a little afraid of what to expect. I'm afraid that they may not be friendly with me because I would be a new face walking around the residential home. Because I'm a very shy person at first and it takes a while for me to open up and be myself to anyone, I was scared that they might be more outspoken than me. The reason I haven't gone yet is because I'm waiting on my ride(Michelle) to tell me when she's available to go. As of right now, her classes conflict with the times available for me to go to Alexandria House so we're trying to figure out our time schedule so that we could both go together. She is my only way of transportation that I know of so I'm just really waiting on her. But we're planning on going real soon, I hope. Other than that, I heard that there will be Child Care available from 5pm-7pm and I'm excited for that. The reason is because I already work at the Child Development Center here at Mount Saint Mary's and I already have a jist of how it is to work and be around toddlers and children. I enjoy working at the C.D.C so I'm sure I'll have as much of a good time working and playing with the children at the Alexandria House. I'm excited to meet new kids other than the ones I already work with at school and I can't wait to go.

My experience at the Alexiandria House
How mant times have you gone to Alexandria House? What did you do?Whom did you work with? What did you learn? How did you feel? What would you do differently?
So far, I've gone to volunteer at the Alexandria house 3 times. The first time, I went with another student. I was nervous at first because I didn't know what to expect from the children, whether or not they were going like me or even let me help them out with their homework. I was also afraid of being asked questions I wouldn't be able to answer and not even know how to help. Luckily another student who was volunteering was helping tutor the child along with me because there was only one student to tutor at the time. The girl's name was Anna and she was a friendly girl who had a lot to say. She was homeschooled. We tried our best to help her with her Pre-Algebra homework and honestly I had forgotten how to do PreAlgebra so I sort of struggled, but I was glad to have someone with me to help her out. I had to read her textbook and look at examples to try and understand the problems. Besides tutoring her, in between she would interrupt and try to converse with us about random things, asking us questions about our life and how college life is. She made an effort to get to know us better besides just strictly tutoring and thats what I liked about her, she was open to talk about anything. Then she admitted to us how being with her as she did her homework actually helped motivate her finish and concentrate better. Her just saying that me made me feel somewhat accomplished. The part I'd probably do differently is that if I knew I was going to tutor a student who needed help with math, then I would've prepared myself better considering I havent done any math for about almost 3 years now.
The second time I went, I was assigned to do the Child Care. I worked with another student, Michelle and the a few other adults who helped supervise the kids. The infants and toddlers were so active and playful they exhausted me but I haven't had that kind of fun in so long. The kids were so playful by the end of the day, they had worn me out. Some games we played with them was Down by the River hand game, Duck Duck Goose, Tag, and Catch me when I fall. I also pushed and raced them in cars going around and around in circles which was fun but tiring. It was worth it because hearing and seeing them laughing and smiling made me feel happy happy for them. I've never seen kids so happy and playful in my life. A boy even hugged me constantly for no reason. As I played with them, it made me think more deep about their situation and how I would only have 4 more hours to complete. I thought to myself I wonder how many student volunteers actually have gone to the Alexandria House in the past years, completed their 8 hours and stopped going. I knew automatically that there must have been a lot of them that went and never came back after completing there time. Then I thought to myself no matter what they've been through, I saw how much the kids enjoyed there time with us, them knowing that we'd eventually stop going. For a moment, I felt sad. Being so far away from my siblings and family, it even got me feeling homesick. It made me appreciate my life and family more. Playing with the kids, I honestly havent had that kind of fun in so long and I had so much fun that time flew by so fast. By the end of the day, the experience made me exhausted but happy to know I had made other kids feel happy.

Stock Market & Global Economy
I'm not a big expert of the stock market and the global economy nor do I know much about it but if I had to guess, I would probably say that its not going towards a good direction. When i think of global economy, I think of the social system of production, exchange, distribution and consumption of products and services through out the whole world. While the rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer and thousands and thousands of people are suffering. For instance, there are businesses increasing and becoming more efficient while there are others making ends meet just to survive.
As I think back to how prices were back then, I've realized that living expenses, gas prices, household mortages, and loans are more costly than they've ever been in this lifetime. Prices are rising before our eyes and its making it a struggle for all of us and I can't imagine how it will be in the near future. Will our incomes now be able to support us as well as our families in the future years???Who knows. There are both negative and positive occurences happening to the world today. One example of the positive is that our significantly improved technology today has benefited our lifestyles in a way of making life situations more convenent for us. Businesses have learned to develop partnership and alliances throughout the globe which results in sucess to many businesses all over the world. One example of a negative occurence happening to our global economoy is the great demand on gas and oil and prices are higher than ever. This is making it difficult for transportation on all of us. Like I mentioned earlier, living expenses has risen so high in the past couple years who knows how much more it will rise.
I'm not sure what is going to happening with the American Election. I'm not registered to vote so obviously I don't have much say but I'm hoping that Barack Obama wins all for the right reasons. He seems very intelligent from his background of schools that he has attended as well as his accomplishments. He's had a lot of experience with public services and worked in office to pass bills on health care, education, taxes, and other world issues that needs to be fixed. Almost every position he's taken in office has been a success. He also comes from a hard working family and he had to work for everything he got.
The American election and the global economy are related in ways where all the world issues occuring today will obviously affect us either in a negative or positive way depending on who wins as president. So it's important to choose the president who we as well as our economy will benefit from the most and make this world a better and peaceful place to live in.

Pre-Writing Assignment #2
I think globalization doesn't necessarily threaten the cultural rights and identities of less powerful countries because no one is forced to use technology or any kind of advanced technology available today. Instead it gives millions of people the option to use it. Yet, so many of them refuse to use it because either they don't need it or they simply just live simple lives and can live without any use of technology. Many people that live in the less powerful countries were most likely raised without any use of technology which is probably why it doesn't matter to them if they have it or not. They've been brought up that certain way that it doesnt phase them. But on the other hand for many of us in the United States, we were raised a whole different way where technology and hand held devices were around us every single day that we got adapted to it so quickly. So quickly that it became a part of our lives. Not only did it become a part of our lives but no longer was it a accessory but a necessity to have with us everywhere we go. Technology has advanced so fast over the years that almost all of us rely on it everyday whether its our cell phones, touch phones, computers, laptops, radios, internet, GPS systyem, and the list goes on. Many of us have adapted to it so much that rarely can you find us without them. I'm sure many of us can't go a single minute or even a single day day without them and thats whats kind of scary. If you think back to how people lived their lives thousands and thousands of years ago , technology was barely ever created or let alone used. Everything needed to be physically done. For example, we went from writing essays and turning it in physically to typing essays and sending it through via email. Another example is how our cellphones today is a very big important part of communication. We use our cellphones today to contact important people and even through texting and I can't even imagine how people contacted each other back then without the use of cellphones and they survived. If people who choose to live without technology don't bother trying to use devices or any use of technology, then I think that we should respect their decisions and not force them to do anything they don't want to. Yes, maybe if they learned about the technology use, life would be somewhat easier on their part but if they were raised and grew up living without use of technology back then, then I'm sure they can survive without them NOW and it won't be any problem.
